A NEW PROJECT
This May, Wild Goose Creative has put on the month-long arts initiative, Wild Art Columbus, for the second time. Each day, a different Columbus artist and their work is showcased as they post to Wild Goose Creative's social media sites (first posted to Instagram) for each day of May 2015. The first project happened during September 2014, with great success. The event ends on the last day of the month with a live art auction.
This time, I had the honor of participating, creating #TinyThings, five new pairs of knit and crochet sculptures. I regularly knit and create for friends, family and new babies, but this was an opportunity to freehand art for art's sake.
As with every artist or crafter, I have an affinity for collecting new supplies for creation. This time, I chose to create with the knitting needles, crochet hooks and yarn supplies I had on hand. Some ideas got nixed in favor of yarn or accessories I'd have to acquire at the craft store. The craft store is my kryptonite.
Watching this project unfold can be so uplifting, as an artist or an observer. Both parties get to interact, giving encouragement throughout the day. Though positive criticism has its place in the arts, this format has been filled thus far with compliments and love.
