CREATIVE BABES: SPRING EDITION
I found photos from a winter Creative Babes event via Facebook, and knew I wanted to be a part of this budding group of women. From their website, "Creative Babes provides a comfortable, inclusive environment in which women are able to participate in shared experiences that foster creativity, positivity, authentic relationships and personal growth." The spring event proved to be exactly in line with their mission.
I did the thing I don't usually do, and decided to show up to the party alone, knowing that I'd run into a few babes I've met before, trusting the universe. It's been my thing lately to show up with my camera, and take a few photos of whatever I happen to be doing.
The night was filled with music, Manhattans and inspiring stories in a cozy backyard. Introduced by Sami of Shitty Notebook (with a sparkler), Natasha of Outfit Good talked about her experience starting a business that serves good causes through screen printed tees and accessories. She spoke about her own experience as an introverted business owner; something that definitely speaks to my sort.
Outfit Good seemed to develop organically, with hard work, from the opportunities that arose along the way. Need a website? Find a way to create it. Found a screen printing machine for sale? Grab it, and start making. Sounds like something I know pretty well. Adapt and get it done.
After stories were shared, the group broke out into an after party, giving me the opportunity to talk one-on-one with people I knew and some I didn't. Everyone I spoke with seemed to be there for the same reason -- to connect and share.
I'm reminded, people aren't scary.
