This past Sunday, we had the second #wildartcolumbus Live Auction at Wild Goose Creative. The event showcased the most liked photos from the Wild Goose Creative Instagram account over the course of the month.
My day was May 22. The winning work for #TinyThings, was "Squid and Fish (and Seaweed)". Up until shortly before the event, I wasn't sure how I was going to deliver the work. Two tiny knit critters with some seaweed?
After giving it some thought (and a spin around the Target home decor department), I made a lil' mini diorama. WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THIS BEFORE?! I was pretty happy with the resulting work. It was so super cute.
At the auction, another like-minded fiber artist connected with the piece and after some fierce bidding (hehe) she took it home with her. I think I'm onto something creatively with the diorama. Given more time, I could make something really interesting out of the large and weirdly obsessive collection of cigar boxes I've acquired over the years. I can't stop collecting them.
My fiancé Jon and I ended up with a few pieces ourselves. One is the mixed media painting of the Leveque Tower by Shelagh Conley and Anisa Gandevivala. So lovely. The other piece (shown center in the above right gallery photo) is titled "The Living Volcano" by Paul Rentler.
The Live Auction is such a heartening event. It engages artists across Columbus, in an open environment. Followers on the Instagram account are very encouraging, and most of the pieces go very quickly at the auction. It's my new favorite thing at Wild Goose.
