CULTIVATING SELF LOVE
Loving yourself is like any longterm relationship. There are high points and low moments. There are times when you feel conflicted or inspired, angry or elated. But self-love isn't something we can do without. We have to cultivate it to live with ourselves.
It takes courage. You're going to mess up. You're going to be disappointed with how you are received in the world. You can't let fear — of others' opinions, or how much you will sell of your product, or how full your yoga classes are — be the things are are stopping you.
It takes vulnerability. You have to be real and raw. You have to try your hardest, but be honest when things are not working well. It's so easy to deceive ourselves into comfortable mental places. Loving yourself means you know when to redirect your path.
It takes commitment. We can so easily fall into patterns of unhealthy self-criticism. Honesty with yourself does not mean tearing the system down. Recommit to being gentle.
It takes care. Allow for moments of reconnection. Take care of yourself in whatever way that means — whole and healthy foods, your favorite physical activity, sunshine and maybe a skiff of whiskey.
It'll lead to growth.
