DIY THREE-INGREDIENT FACIAL TREATMENT
Part of self care for me is how my skin looks and feels. If I've been eating well, drinking enough water and getting enough sleep, my skin is naturally brighter, clearer and softer to the touch. I keep a regular schedule of cleansing, acne treatment and gentle exfoliation, but it's not always enough.
If I haven't been keeping up, my skin (and gut) are the first things to fall out of balance. I'm fortunate in that I don't get *too* many breakouts anymore (ah! FINALLY in my 30s), but a litmus test for how well I'm doing is whether acne shows up to the surface. This face mask is easy to do, and has so many benefits for all skin types.
Baking soda is a fine grain exfoliator while white sugar is quite abrasive, so blending them together seems to do the trick. Experiment with what your skin might need.
And honey. Oh, honey. It's naturally antibacterial, moisturizing and anti-inflammatory. In regard to acne or small abrasions to the skin, it'll help reduce redness and clear infection while retaining your skin's naturally occurring oils.
I usually go for an exfoliation and honey treatment once a week. If it's an exceptionally bad breakout week, I might use honey more that once.
- 2 tbl. Honey (I use basic honey for this, nothing too special or expensive!)
- 1-2 tsp. Baking soda
- 1-2 tsp. White sugar
Cleanse any makeup or product off your face. Wipe your face with damp washcloth. Gently exfoliate in small circles with baking soda mixed with a little sugar.
Warm up the honey in the microwave or in a stove top pot (not too hot!). Check the temperature on the back of your hand. When it's at a soothing temperature, apply it to your face. Let it sit for 3-5 minutes and wipe clean. Make sure to get all the sugary bits out of your hairline.
If you're just staying around the house, apply a little coconut oil, and allow it to soak in. If you're headed out, apply your favorite facial cream and get going!
